Gerhard and Catherina were married in 1783 (1). As Ambassador he received a dedication for the "Trio for Two Violins and a Cello in D Minor" (Op.3 No.2) from the American composer John Antes (1740-1811) - “Tre Trii, per due Violini and Violoncello, Obligato. Dedicati a Sua Excellenza il Sigre G.J. de Heidenstam, Ambassatore de Sa Maj il Ri de Suede a Constantinopel, Composti a Grand Cairo dal Sigre Giovanni A–T–S, Dillettante Americano. Op. 3.” (5). A recipient of the Swedish Order of the Northern (Polar) Star (4). Actively engaged in Ottoman declaration of war against Russia in 1787. From resignation in 1791, he studied oriental literature in Smyrna (modern day Izmir) until his death (1) (4). Buried in Plot B20 in the Alsancak Dutch Protestant Cemetery in Izmir, Turkey.
